Although classes ended last April, my dissertation was submitted in September, and my MSc was confirmed in December, the nature of the university graduation queue meant that I didn’t get my actual degree until last week.
And there it is.
I didn’t bother with the graduation ceremony because I am a grown-ass woman who doesn’t do happy-clappy rah-rah, so I just picked up the parchment on campus, where my unexpected sequel MPhil is well underway. As for how that’s going, I feel just as welcome and at home every day as I did with the MSc programme.
Still, having the parchment in front of my face brought on a really nice fulfilling sense of completion, even more so since the experience came out of completely nowhere. You really should spend a year on it too.
I’ve framed the degree alongside my BA from Y2K; which means that yes, there is a gap of twenty-five years and ten months between the two pieces of paper. And you know what? That’s real life. You always get to where you’re meant to be going in the end.
But for god’s sake, Stuart, make an effort next time. 😉

Congratulations!
My counselor said I shouldn’t wait too long between my Bsc and MSc; the longer I wait, he said, the harder it is to get back into the groove.
Which, I think, is sound advise. Except my BSc was so, shall we say, interesting that I never got into an academic groove to begin with ^^
Nice to see that door doesn’t close forever should I wish to do an MSc after all.
You have to do it because you want the joy of the experience, not necessarily to have any career goal in mind. That was what made all the difference for me.
